Next time you want to ride out a lightning storm, keep this in mind.

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - A lightning strike on a fishing boat killed one man
and injured another. State wildlife agents say Saturday's strike on Old
Black Bayou near Lake Charles killed 44-year-old Joe Landry. He was
pronounced dead at the scene. His fishing partner - Richard Bergeron of Lake
Charles- was treated and released later Saturday from a hospital.
Investigators say the two were attempting to pick up anchor and retreat from
a small storm when lightning hit.

wow....

That's not going to buff out. If the family would allow it, that boat should be shown by LDWF at boat ramps on days when people are getting off the water during a storm. I bet most people don't realize how bad a strike can ruin your day.

Had a buddy that was struck & killed by lightining about 15 years ago fishing False River. The storm was several miles away. I've had it strike so close that the few seconds before it hit the hair on my arms raised up & fishing line started humming! That's a bad feeling!

Man that is scary. Makes ou rethink going out with storms poping up around you.

bay_slayer 09-16-2009 12:30 PM

ouch......that other guy that survived will think twice before going out on a cloudy day.

CatDaddy 09-16-2009 12:38 PM

Ok.... Thanks. Im a, one to say "lets see if we can make it, we will try and go around it" But not no more

I got hung up in a Really bad one this year, crawfishing. I won't lie, I was really scared of what was next. Hair was standing, and the light was blinding. I feel like one of the main things that saved us since we were in a heavy aluminum boat, was the trees. Sounds weird right? I have been told that you are better off in the trees than in the open water.

Whatever the case, beit trees or God not wanting me yet, I really feel fortunate seeing that. I hope the family heals from this accident and that people learn respect mother nature.

Yeah you right...The good Lord knows I got too much going on to lay out yet. My mission is NOT complete yet. It was, hand's down, the worst time I've ever had on the water and perhaps in life in general...Rough day.
