Side Imaging question

I have a hummingbird 798 SI HD combo. I recently installed it on the transom of my boat. Upon first introduction, when i would get on plane the transducer was throwing alot of water into the boat. The transducer was about an inch below the transom. I moved the transducer flush with the transom and now do not pick up any of the side imaging that i should. Fished the river sat and couldnt pick up any of the underwater structure on side imaging.... Should i move the transducer back to its original position? could the 1/2" move have messed up the imaging? is there any kind of reccomended mount you guys suggest. It is not close to the prop soo i dont think that is an issue. If i do move it back to its original position i may mount it to where i can adjust it up and down to avoid all the splashing on plane. What are your thoughts and experience with mounting these things to get the best performance?

no takers???

Is the transome perpendicular to horizontal or is it kind of angled? If angled, maybe that half inch causes your beam to be blocked by the lower unit? Just a WAG. If you trim up your motor will the SI picture return?

transom is angled to a small degree but the transducer is horizontal in water.... havent tried to trip up but i thought it shouldnt be a problem... imaging is blocked on both sides (i would think only one side would be blocked if the lower unit was invovled???). i didnt think a 1/2" would make a difference but clearly it does.

Clearly i'm not a real man of genius!!! LOL
Apparently that 1/2" has a bad effect.

all of the images on the hummingbird site are showing the transducer siting below the bottom of the transom. The top of the transducer is sitting flush with the bottom of the transom in the images. I have mine reversed (with the bottom of the transducer sitting flush with the bottom of the transom? might just have to deal with the splash the transducer puts out and move it back down.

LOL clearly i am not either... others need to chime in :help: I will say this though... the down imaging is crazy. cant wait to hit toledo and look at some of my way points!!!

Yes indeed it is crazy. I can find sunken brush that people put out. I even saw and waypointed a sunken treetop with what looked like white perch all over it. I may have to start fishing them too!! I can't wait for the bass to fully get on the summer time pattern and find them in those sunken treetops and drop a big worm/jig on them!!

Not sure about Hummingbird, but I have the Lowrance and it is set above the bottom of the pad/boat. I actually have mine connected to the jackplate which is common in the bass boat world. Side imaging doesn't work over 5mph anyway so mine is in the water when going those speeds, but completely out of the water when running probably anything much over 5-10 mph. It is also protected against hitting anything since the transducers are so expensive.

You need to call Hummingbird and have them send you a splash plate.
