Lets talk surf fishing
 
Alright, help a noob out here. :help:

First of all let me say how great of a forum this is.. I recently stumbled across it and have been reading, learning, and enjoying ever since.

I'm looking for areas to surf fish closest to Lafayette... I'm looking for places closer than Grand Isle. Finances arent allowing a boat at this time and I want/NEED to get out there and catch fish.

Any other tips or info involving surf fishing will also be accepted with open arms

fish rocks at holly beach and lil florida after a couple days of no wind or north wind. gets muddy quick. i have done well the few times ive gone with black/char swimbaits and topwater. there have been several beach threads lately, they have some good info in there.

You'd fish around the rocks or past them at holly beach?

Depends. At the rocks, I fish the corners where the rocks end, sometimes the middle. I move down a couple rocks if they aren't at one. I'll fish the open water too, especially if I see bait.

Hey we go Boss like Rick Ross,

You wanna watch the winds. Your best bet is to watch the wind and let it blow out of the north for a day or 2 or 3 before you go. My favorite beach area to fish is Mae's Beach. Cause most of the time, I don't even have to get into the water. You can throw a topwater plenty far enough from the sand. And there aren't any rock breakers. Last time I have been to the beach was last summer and I went solo, I caught 30 trout all on topwater on a white skitterwalk and never put my feet in the water. If not throwing topwater throw something in either chartreuse or opening night. (sand eels, cocahoes, flukes) If the water is dirty try Gulp products. 2nd choice would be to head east back to Holly Beach and fish the rock breakers around Little Florida or Constance Beach. Fish usually hold on either the west or east side of the breakers. Some days, the only way you can get em is if you crawl up on the rock breakers and cast straight into the gulf. But be careful and wear a good pair of shoes cause the rocks are very slippery. Good luck. If you want send me a PM when you are thinking about going and I will try and do my best to help you out.

X2 about Mae's. Talked to a guy that limited out yesterday by fishing it like that. He said he would drive around Maes and fish washouts and spots where the sand made a point, catch 2 or 3 fish then move. Most fish were caught from the sand. All on bone skidderwalk.

Yup last time I went I never moved. Caught em all in one spot. Thing I like about Mae's is you can cruise up and down the beach in a 4x4 and stop wherever you see the most bait activity.

Drive the beach at Mae's. When you see a seagull dive, hit the brakes and cast a black/chart topwater. Then land the 3 lb'er

Never fished the beach out west but at GI and fourchon ,DO NOT pass up fishing directly between two sets of rocks. The water rushes out pretty fast between the sets and scours that area deeper than the surrounding bottom .
But , BE VERY CAREFUL if wading as the water flowing at a higher speed also creates undertows.

You can also catch some good fish along the shop channel along the flat.
