Transmission question

04 suburban wont go forward only reverse. Rebuild transmission for $2000 or put used one in for $1500. Any advice from experience?

buy a reman trans, comes with warranty and a lot better then a rebuild. find a jasper dealer. I wouldn't buy a jasper mod motor though!

Sounds like your saving $500 to spend $3500. If you don't know the history of used tranny and it is going in a daily driver, pay for a rebuild. You will know what you have. The used one could go out also then you back to square one. Work and mud trucks I'll put used parts on though, just not my good truck.

nothing will hold up like the gm tranny, ive been through plenty rebuilt 4L60E's all with the most performance stuff money can buy... I regret not going back with new gm tranny

I believe your local Chevy dealer has a 3yr /100,000 mile warranty on their REMAN transmissions. A quick Google search showed they retail for about $1875.00.

I had the same problem in my wife's '01 Tahoe a couple of years ago. We put in a GM trans.

Go with reman, I know to many people that went through the rebuild nightmares.

Buy your wife a new vehicle you cheapskate!!!! ;)

Dink 05-22-2012 03:38 PM

If you buy a rebuilt and it goes out under warranty, then you pay gor the R&R. If you have it rebuilt and it goes out under warranty, the folks that built it are on the hook for the whole job

Call a few dealers and get pricing. $1800~2000, if you're handy at all it should only take about an hour to install it yourself.
