headed out yesterday with my lil bro to search lake borgne for some spots and dots.
we decided to fish all new areas, its important to do this from time to time. finding new areas will allow u to find fish more often and on days when ur honey hole is dried up or unfishable bc of the weather or potlickers.
few tips ill give :
look for moving water, find points, washouts, sunken islands, drops offs on ur sonar, find a color change in water, bait in the water jumping.
theses are all essntial in searching for fish in new areas.
we found some reds schooling in a small lagoon then had tons of bait, great water movement and lots of bottom contours.
the water is high in our area, so it has opened up many of the ponds and lagoons that are normally inaccessable.
but with a tide 3-4 ft above normal it has brought the bait in and the fish have followed.
we had a blast sight casting for reds then throwing topwater for trout.
i need to brush up on my topwater skills, lost alot on the retrieve, but the blow ups were amazing!!
also my bro hooken into and landed a 45-50 lb black drum!
it was unreal , we were in 3-4 ft of water and the fish was goin nuts!!
neither of us said much while he fought the fish......but 10 min later we had it in the boat and were celebrating.

here are the pics of the day:work::work::D:D

what general area of lake borgne do you fish? We've been fishing from the mouth of the pearl south into the marsh with pretty good success on most trips but I"ve been wanting to venture a little farther west just to get familiar with the area.

from the l&n train bridge i like the shore line to the right or south. its got alot of lagoon and other cuts that dup into the lake . u can access many from the intercoastal canal if the wind is kicked up and the lake is choppy. most of the shore line there is sand.
just look for bait, and moving water.

That is absolutely one of the biggest flat fish i have ever seen. It will take 3 lbs. Of crab meat to stuff that sucker.

not familiar with the l & n train bridge....I've never been west of the pearl river along the shoreline of borgne. I'll have to take a ride next trip and do some scouting.
