Why are white trout called sand trout or sandies west of Baton Rouge? Aren't they all the same species? Just wonderin'.

The white seatrout and the sand seatrout are the same species, Cynoscion arenarius.

The silver seatrout is a different species, Cynoscion nothus, but often difficult to distinguish from the sand seatrout.

Growing up in LC, we called them all sand trout, but now we call them bait.
