Steering System Advice

My steering cable broke on my 17' Cape Horn and I am not sure what to replace it with. I looked on Teleflex's website, but it seems that some systems are for power assisted, etc. I just want a basic steering system, maybe no feedback. Can you recommend any good ones or models. Not looking for hydraulic or anything fancy, just a good one that works.

I installed a new Teleflex rotary stearing system on my boat this past fall. I got the SS137 rotary system on the advice from Ryan......thanks.

It was not too hard to install, but took several hours because the of how the steering wheel mounts. It was a tight fit.

After taking the measurments, It fell right in the middle on what size was needed. I followed the instructions on what size to order. I got it installed...... but if that cable had been a couple inches longer I don't know how I would have gotten it to fit.

Best thing to do is take the helm off and bring it to a boat shop and get them to match it up to the one you have so there is no guesswork. Their should also be a part number on the cable close to where it goes into the tilt tube on the engine. That will tell you what size cable you need. Glad you got it going Gerald....funny thing is not long after I talked to you about your cable mine crapped out too.

i just pulled it out, will post a pic of the damage, cable was rusted and totaled.

Its a steermaster Mark III. i found a replacement cable for $230??? Can buy a complete teleflex no feedback for the same, or another teleflex for cheaper

The SS137 is the one i was originally looking at. do you know the max hp motor this system can handle? I have a 90, but would like to upgrade to a 115 one day

I checked the box that mine came in but there was no hp rating given.

If the web site does not say what they are rated for, contact the manufacture.
