Spearfishing guide insurance

What kinda insurance Would I need to run guided spear trips and is it possible to get clients to sign waiver that would hold up?

FF_T_Warren 07-10-2012 06:23 PM

Jadams 07-10-2012 06:29 PM

I enjoy diving and would like to bring people but that's lot of liability

S & L divers in Abbeville takes out divers for spear fishing might want to ask them. You would prob need to get your Divaster certification if you don't already. Good luck. I might be interested in a trip.

In Louisiana so called waivers are worth the paper they are printed on.

Jared, I have went on several trips, the one guided one did have a divemaster onboard. Its a long course. I have my advanced and rescue. Lots of time and money to get divemaster. Good luck with it. I know several people out of lake charles who were doing guided spear trips but think they stopped due to costs. Call DARREL with True Blue in lake charles- he will know

If ur serious, pm me tomorrow and I will dig up the info. I doubt there is any state in the union that a wavier will hold up since you can't sign away something that hasn't happened yet. It will probably be cost prohibitive without a steady supply of clients though.

Jadams 07-10-2012 10:20 PM

Would the insurance be any cheaper if you just guided free divers instead of scuba divers? Seems there would be a lot less liability if you are not going down a hundred feet or so. I don't dive, but I have always wanted to and would make a trip with you if you decided to get a license/permit/insurance.

Some people that free dive go down that far

Hopedale Hustler 07-11-2012 06:08 AM

Some people that free dive go further...free dive spear fishing is by far one of the rarest and purest feelings a soul can come across on this earth.

Crawl79 07-11-2012 07:27 AM

Some dive operations let a divemaster ride for free to help out. Many divemasters are more than willing to help out to have a free ride offshore.

If just free diving probably don't need one.

don't remember exact cost but it was costly for myself. think I paid couple hundred dollars each. Think the guys last name was Cloud- he hooked up with Darrel out of True Blue and rented the equipment from him. He chartered out of a 30+ foot boat. He had a nice set up for holding tanks and equipment. We supplied our own spearguns. He was the captain and had to have a divemaster with him on standby. I had my own BC/and other equipment but you could rent from True Blue if you needed anything. We went out around 60 miles from Mermentau and dove rigs- mainly snapper and mangroves. Trip was fun but when you add tank rental along with paying for fuel on large boat, it gets very expensive. I have been out in a bay boat also but if you bring several divers it gets hard to carry all the gear without getting your boat banged up. True Blue has several members of their dive club who are always making trips out and always looking for more people, might be worth a call for some info. Every trip I head south on now- my speargun and fins are always with me- like you said- damn mangroves over here are too damn smart. Freediving for them seems to work best and dont have to worry with the hassle of tanks and equipment.

Hey I will dive master for FREE, I am a certified DM, Instructor, and completed Staff Instructor as well, also well advanced in technical stuff too. Have issued over 200 certifications and have approximately 2500 dives. Being station in Guam has some advantages, and met my wife because of diving.

Free diving was my cup of tea, I only have a small Riffe, (reef gun) is true free diving is the Smack!!!
