need advice on pier fishing

Is it worth it to go out in big lake under the lights tomorow night and fish off the piers? With all the fresh rain water recently not really sure if its a good idea. Im new to the whole salt water thing so i could use some help from all the experienced fisherman in the salty cajun world. Thanks
