Basin bassin

The wife and I ran our little 14 foot jon boat in the Basin yesterday bass fishin. We launched at the New Verdunville boat launch, ran the river to Blue Point Chute and then all the way to Big Bayou Pigeon.
We started out fishing the runout at the boat launch with spinner baits and crankbaits. One spinnerbait was white and the other was white/blue/chartreuse. One crankbait was white w/black back and the other was chartreuse. No bites.
We fished the points on canals in Little Bayou Long with crankbaits and spinnerbaits. No bites.
We did the same on a canal in Middle Fork Bayou.
We did the same in the Zigzag canal. Finally caught two 13 inch bass in a runout in Zigzag.
Ran to E. Grand Lake and fished the mouth of Big Pigeon with spinnerbaits and crankbaits. No bites.
Began fishing along bank of Pigeon back towards the Reed Canal. No bites. I switched to a copperhead bandit worm and immediately got a bite in Pigeon and caught a 14 inch keeper. Caught 2 more undersized bass on the worm in Pigeon. Time now 6:00 PM.
Ran to Reed Canal and fished mouth with cranks. No bites. Fished worm at points in Reed Canal and caught about 5 goggleeye. No bass.
We left at 8:05 and ran back to the ramp in the dark with our one keeper bass.

Where is the New Verdunville boat Landing? I always fish out of the old one.

It's about 3 miles up the levee from the old one. When the Army Corpse of Engineers spent $12M to put the weir in lower Grand Lake, they built a new ramp above the weir so people wouldn't have to negotiate the 3 foot differential in water level through the gap in the weir to get upstream to the main channel. Then the Army Corpse of Engineers, under pressure fro Billy Tauzin, spent $7M to take the weir out and the new ramp stayed.
When you leave the new ramp, you cross Grand Lake and hit the main channel almost directly across from the landing.
