Has anyone had surgery for this? I have to have mine repaired soon , had 3 cortisone shots and Dr says no more

How long are you down for?
Might have to wait until winter time if its a long time .

Recovery varies by the individual, dr, degree of injury, and physical therapy. I would expect to be out of fishing for atleast 12 weeks. give or take...... no fishing. you must be heartbroken

side note: I am not a MD.... just RN soo take it for what its worth.

Funny you post this......woke up yesterday & it's killin me!!!!

Theres gonna be some moaning & whining going on in the Haynie in a another week!

That stuff sucks... The icy hot elbow sleve is a good temp fix for when it is hurting or when you are doing what ever caused it..

I'm getting a shot today,,,,, I called and told them I can't have surgery just yet but if your going to repair it any way , load it up

He said come on down at 4

SaltERedneck 07-19-2012 08:37 AM

Maybe you should just soak some shrimp under a cork for a few months and see if it goes away.

I doubt this is going to affect his casting. What's one more backlash? :smokin:

Dr. Holland

My wife had the exact repair done by Dr. holland last fall. Took her about 6 weeks to recover, but is 100% now. It got a bit worse after the surgury, but not too long after she was back at her tennis. Better than the shots..... Good luck.

learn to cast with the other arm...........opens up a whole new world.........

Usually tennis elbow occurs from fishing with live bait and 1/2 ounce sinker carolina rigged!

Just picking...I have had flare ups from fishing and it sux large...usually take tordal and anti-inflammatory and no casting for a week and back in business...Once it is as bad as getting corticosteroid injections, it's knife time...Will suck bad right after, but you will be good as new, if not better after you are healed....

"W" I will tell you how mine got cured. A doctor told me to do this and I did it. it was probably 5 years ago. before i did this i too would wear a band. it hurt most of the time.

here is what he said to do, that I did and have not had a problem since. he said that when you do hot and cold type applications of 15 minutes it never really shrinks all the inflammation. or the same is true of just the cold application. what you have to do is do cold for as long as you can stand it, but at least 25 minutes. he said put elbow in ice but you have to protect your skin from freezing. so either wrap your elbow or the ice.

I think i put my elbow in a large zip lock and stuck it down in the ice water. it starts to hurt at about 10 minutes. i think i did it for 30 minutes. I think I only did it one time. maybe twice and that was it.

you might just put the ice and water in a zip lock and put on your forearm where it hurts.

good luck and I hope it helps.

Jeremy, nothing against your doc, but I would go see one of the orthos in LC and just get a second opinion.

Hope it works out for ya

Tennis elbow

The big thing about tennis elbow is rest, rest, rest. Had mine injected and started doing the same things I did before. Fishing, volleyball, etc. Second time I had it injected I took a 4 to 6 weeks hiatus from most of the above mentioned activities and my elbow finally felt normal again.. Easier said than done, but I would try the rest aspect before having this type surgery

Biggest thing to remember is once you have the surgery .NO CASTING until you are fully healed. you can make it a whole lot worse if you try to get back at it to fast.

Marc 07-19-2012 07:12 PM

I work at CFO on Nelson, you will wanta refrain from repetitive activities for approximately 8wks, depends on how quickly you recover (everyone is alittle different). Dr Holland is a good surgeon and a friend of a couple of the guys here. It's a good surgery for relieving pain. Hollar back if you have any other questions.
