butterfly net winch or motor??
 

Been working on getting my grandpas old butterfly net back up and running. All we need now is a winch or motor of some sort to lift the frame in and out of the water. We have an old beebee bros 5 ton winch that has been there for years, but the handle is missing. Any recommendations?? Anyone have something like this for sale or know where I can look?? Thanks in advance!!

Possibly so. Not sure of the weight of the frame with the net, but it cant be that much. All aluminum frame, 22' tall by 12' wide. One of those winches would work, but I would need at least 60ft of cable. I couldnt find one at a reasonable price that would hold that much cable. Thanks for the response.

Well not all of that would be on the spool at any given time, is this on a dock or boat? Im thinking most winches hold 50' of cable, if you 60' on it at least 10-20' will be out of the winch when the net is out of the water putting 40-50' on the spool. I would think that a 2-3k winch would be plenty. I hear Viper makes some good, fair priced 12 volt winches, my atv buddies use these on their bikes

It's on a dock. Will need the 60 ft of cable not clamped together as it has to run thru a couple different pulleys and don't want it getting hung up or jumping off track. 2-3k should be more than enough.

You'd have to replace the factory cable with longer cable and just make you up an end that will work on the net side. I wouldnt think you'd have a problem getting it to work.

Suggest you go look at several butterfly net to how they raise an lower them. You might come up with a good idea.

I looked into wenches a while back...... harbor freight had the best prices, but don't know how there stuff would hold up to saltwater. Hand wench might be you best option.

Everyone Ive seen up there is using a cathead/capstan type winch. Next time Im at the camp I will talk with them to see where they bought theirs and how much they cost.
