Automatic inflating lifejacket?

What is the best automatic inflating lifejacket? How long does the charge last? As long as I keep the jacket in the house, it should last longer? I went swimming the other day and realized I'm really not that good at it.

I have mustang and another brand. I try to take em out of my boat because I'd I store them in a locker with wet stuff the humidity will eventually cause them to inflate I'll post up what the other brand is later... Either way well worth the $$$

I have a mustang also, if i'm not wearing it in the boat it's stored in the house. Very comfortable and worth the investment. Going to get a recharge for mine in the spring, hopefully I won't need it before.

I have a Mustang also. Stays stored in my rod box in the boat. Had it for 3 years now.

Can't swim at all if you unconcious (sp). I know that used to be, you wanted one with the HIT technology. They would not inflate unless they were under the water and some of the others would inflate in a rod box, etc due to humidiity and other issues. Don't know if this is still true or not.

Mustang model MD 3183 hydrostatic has a 5 year expiration date won't inflate until 3 inches below the water line a little pricey but well worth it

Mustang can be bought where?

jchief 07-21-2012 02:47 PM

Thanks

You want a HIT, not MIT.

Do the inflatables with the bobbin (dissolve in water) actually go off in a rain? How long will the bobbin type last before replacement?

jchief 07-22-2012 11:29 AM

I know there used to be issues with them. Not sure if there is still or not. I would think they have been fixed.

Maybe go to Cabela's, Basspro, Amazon etc and see the ratings on them.

Nasty 07-22-2012 12:00 PM

Found a HIT mustang for $200 on net...might be getting it

Nasty 07-22-2012 12:03 PM

I guess as long as the indicater is green, I can trust it...even though it could be passed recommended recharge?

jchief 07-22-2012 12:26 PM

My thoughts, it is your LIFE, is it worth it???

Nasty 07-22-2012 02:14 PM

I hear ya'!

hubcap28 07-22-2012 02:27 PM

just be mindful if out on the boat most inflatable life jackets have to be worn to be counted if boarded by coast guard or wildlife.

Saltysacalait 07-22-2012 03:17 PM

Really! What is the reason?

Catcher'sMitt 07-23-2012 10:47 AM

yes they only count if being worn. 4 people, 4 inflatables in the storage compartment = ticket for not having pfd.

cant think of a good reason....its the government, yeah that explains it. lol
