Fishing from small boat

I live in Lake Charles and have a 15' marsh runner with a 25 hp. Was wondering where I could go to catch some trout and reds. Only fished saltwater a cpl times both times in bigger boats. All advice welcome!

It depends on the wind. If there is not much wind, you can probably make it ti the weirs from Heberts. If there isn't a big dump of fresh water, then Turners bay can be pretty good. But you need to learn the spots that will be calm depending on the wind direction and strength. Big Lake is hard to fish and takes time to learn.

On calm days, that's plenty to fish moss lake to lake Charles.
Just gotta wait for it to get right, rains been keeping it from getting there.

Thanks for all the info. Very much appreciated. Hope to get out there soon. What should I look for if there aren't any birds diving?

Big groups of boats, Haynie with a short guy jumping up and down yelling is a good target:smokin:

I have a 15' Alumaweld with a 25 and I have no trouble finding places to fish. Launch at Hebert's when the wind lets you if you want to fish the middle and south end of Big Lake, otherwise launch at Calcasieu Point. You can always fish LNG, even in strong winds. You can also fish up and down the Ship Channel and Intracoastal Canal in pretty high winds. Up north, launch at the I-210 launch and fish the area from the Bridge north. There are plenty of places where small boats can find sheltered fishing!

i have a 1648 and once the winds get around 8-10 i dont even bother with big lake. its still fishable but it takes the fun out of it. i havent fished prien lake yet so i can comment. i might have to make it there this weekend if the wind stays 10-15
