Offshore tackle in Lake Charles

Are there any shops in Lake Charles that sell offshore rods n reels? Looking for a vertical jigging outfit.

Thanks.

Lake Charles Tackle and maybe the Tackle Box in Sulphur.

LCT is your place for offshore tackle!
They got alot of nice stuff in there

hewes 08-06-2012 08:25 PM

i have two 30 class rod and reel combos and tw0 50 class combos for sale. they can be seen at hunters supply and pistol range on kirkman st. lc

West marine has the best offshore selection. Lct and the tackle box are good tackle stores but they are lacking in the offshore stuff IMO. West marine has just about everything offshore.

LCT is stocked up for offshore fishing

LCT has a pretty good rod selection over there, well Shimano Offshore Rods and Reels at least

Yea. They have a decent rod and reel selection. I've bought a few set ups there. But as far as tackle goes west marine has the goods.

Duce Rods has a bad azz line of offshore rods also. Get with rigratnomeaux, he can hook you up.

Top Dawg 08-06-2012 08:53 PM

I did look at the Duce offshore rods at the expo. Looked like some good rods! I have a small tekota on an ugly stick with 85# braid that I love. I can catch anything from ling/mangroves to amberjack on it.

Tog Dawg,

I see you mentioned you have a Tekota. I have been thinking about getting one. What size are you using? I mostly just want to catch snapper, ling and some AJ's. I realize really big AJ's can put a hurtin on most any tackle but I want to be set up for mostly snapper/smaller AJ's rather than have gear that is too heavy.

I'm using the 500. I just sold a 700 and 2 800s. I like the 500 cuz it's smaller, lighter, and I can cast pretty good wit it which comes in handy for the ling. It's spooled with about 250 yds of 85# power pro and the drag is pretty good on it. You can crank down on em and keep em out of the rig. That's the trick catchin any fish on rigs is to get em out of the rig first then fight em. Sometimes it doesn't work that easy. This weekend we were straightening out hooks on mangroves. They can be a frustrating fish. But I wouldn't be afraid to hook a 40-50 lb aj with it. I've caught ling over 60# on it. And it's not heavy and don't wear you out.

Thanks Top Dawg. I was about to buy a 700, but man that sucker is big. I think I like your 500 rig better.

Were you fishing out of cameron catching the Mangroves?

SaltyShaw 08-06-2012 11:31 PM

I want that Torx!

RigRatNoMeaux 08-06-2012 11:48 PM

Have ya'll ever tried the Shimano Tranxx. That thing is a BEAST!!! Pair that up with our 7'9" live bait Twisted Offshore rod and you can throw that thing a mile. Last trip another guy had the same rod but in spinning and we were throwing the same bait and i was zinging it by him.
