Lower unit concerns

1 Attachment(s)
Looking at a boat that I havent seen in person yet. Looking at the pictures I have concerns with the motor. Judging by the lower unit, is this signs of poor maintenance or can it be quite common? I havnt seen it much before. Should I be cautious about this boat? Motor is a 2006 Yamaha 150 four stroke.

On a serious note...if there aren't any bad dings our gouging on the skeg or foot i wouldn't be worried.

not sure if thats oxidation or paint chipping??

Looks like old barnicle marks, like the lower unit was in the water for a while.

I think if that were the case the rest of the boat would have a hellacious scum line, which it doesnt.

It might be from riding a lot on gravel roads. As him where he usually launches the boat and if there is gravel roads there.

Running in shallow water & getting stuck & "backwashing" to get out, mud contained shell & rock & chipped paint on lower unit.

He puts in around Morgan City and then runs the river then out off shore so maybe rock/shallow

Atchafayala Bay, lots of oyster reefs to cut around to Point au' Fer...

I'd ask where he's been running, if its been grinding oyster reefs you should pass... Water gets stupid shallow out there in the winter months, not much of a channel to go by...

PM me the owners name, I still have people down in that area that may know the boat... Matter of fact I am heading to Houma in the morning if you need me to do a drive by...

Good luck !
