X 2 on the Salt Water Piranha. Had one a few years back that sucked, motor would cut out. Ended up throwing it away. But, just this year I bought a new one and it has worked better than any other that I have tried.

Electric won't last on reds. One here & there isn't bad but if you clean reds on a regular basis go with Dexter Russell.

American Angler makes a fresh and saltwater electric knife. Been using the salt water one for a few years now and still holding up. Think it was 40 bucks.

I used the Mister Twister for years. Bought the American Angler with the Shark blade this year. If it holds up, will never go back to the Mister.
Shark blade is unbelievable on Reds. Only thing I don't like is the handle is a little too big.

x2 Black&Decker. Found some for $9.99, bought 3.

I use an American angler and for reds I use a shark blade and only use it for reds. To me that knife is better but I know few guides on big lake that swear by a Hamilton beach and they clean waaaay more fish than All of us. Try wetting the blades before you clean the fish.

bgizzle 08-16-2012 09:58 AM

Dexter russell at academy will burn through them as well

Still use a GE that is over 20 years old! Many splices in the cord from accidental cutting while cleaning fish. Not that great on reds but I very rarely keep reds. B @ D seems to be a knock off of the ol GEs.

bumpnbottom 08-16-2012 10:37 AM

Most electric knifes wont hold up on reds. Go buy you a manual serated edge knife from Academy. They are about $12. Use it to get through bone and scales then use your electric knife to take it off the scale if you want to.

I have went through lots of Mister Twister green knives, blue series lasted longer but did not care for the blades that came with it- kept sticking to the trout skin. Hamilton Beach has performed best for me, last long and sharp knives. Kept having problems with Mister Twister with meat getting between the blades. Bought 3 Black and Decker from wal mart for $9.99. 1st one was bad out of the box, second one cleaned one fish and motor stopped. I took all 3 back to Wal-Mart (maybe a bad batch but learned my lesson). I also use Dexter if I have to clean lots of reds.
