Calcasieu river boaters

While I know people enjoy our water resources for fishing and other water sports, is anyone else tired of big boats, skiers and tubers going through no wake zones without slowing down? I have witnessed this at the Moss Bluff launch and on the west fork. I finally saw wildlife and fisheries out in the Bluff today. I fish a lot by myself, and when my boat is parked in the water, these high speed boats push my boat into the dock. It would be great if these boaters would slow down. It's funny, I never see bass boats fluing through no wake zones.

Yeah I heard wildlife and fisheries was there today, but I don't think they did anything cause the first sign of rain I was told they hauled butt straight to the truck.

There are plenty of idiots on the water who wouldnt recognize a no wake zone sign if you cracked one over their head !!!

I generally start fishing at daylight and am back on the trailer for 10:30, anything after that and "they" will be out on the water...

They have signs on the river at both sides of launches but I noticed some have tree limbs growing out in front of them

And for those ppl that dont know! If u see a kayaker that is considered a no wake zone also! Actually any unmotorized vessel.

Suthrngntlmn 08-19-2012 11:50 AM

I see this often south of the Salt Water Barrier also, big offshore fishing boats at full throttle and even tugs and crew boats with no respect what so ever to the small crafts fishing or traveling the river. I may be wrong, but i thought there was a law about having to slow down for smaller craft.

Me and speckwrangler were in prien one day and a double decker offshore boat came by us at the speed to make the largest wave possible... And was looking right at us... We had to stop fishing and turn our kayaks towards the 4ft rollers he made

Is this a law or an opinion?

BassYakR 08-19-2012 02:25 PM

This is law! Talked to coast guard about it. And he said with the big increase in kayakers in the area they are goin to start enforcing it more N more

The law falls under "Careless Operation"... Causing damage or injury from your wake is against the law... (You are responsible for your wake, in a nutshell)

I carry a small handheld VHF for several reasons ... Weather reports, distress calls, and also calling out large vessels that won't cut you any slack !

You call that boat on your VHF by that vessel's name, and they will slow down... Big Brother is listening :D !!!
