Looking for advice on tuna charter trip (Venice)

I'm in the early stages of booking a tuna trip, preferably an overnighter for 6 people.

Questions are:

Which captain do y'all recommend? I want a nice big boat that'll get us there quick.

For all you bluewater specialist, if you had to choose one month out of the year to fish tuna, which would it be? I wanna try and maximize our chances of coming home with a serious meat haul.

I'm open to all suggestions and tips. Thanks in advance :smokin:

I've been with capt will wall of pelagic charters and he has a 33' contender that will get anywheres quick. He put us on fish and had a great time. I would reccomend him and also capt mike gray with Cajun odysea he has a fine cat and he's awesome to fish with. If it were me I would book in october.

October for sure for the big ones. Just pray that the weather cooperates.

I have been with Captain Josh Howard and also Captain Eddie Burger and both are great.

October is the month to go! You might think about booking a couple of dates due to the fact that the weather is very unpredictable on Fall/Winter trips. I've had to cancel 6 trips in the month of October alone. Capt Josh Howard of Deep South Charters is the only captain I've used in the past couple of years. I've been out with him 8 times in the past two years and will try to make 2 or 3 trips with him this fall. Our largest YF to date was 143lbs earlier this year. Josh is a great captain and will do what ever it takes to put you on the fish. He runs a 35ft stepped hull Contender with twin Yamaha 350's that will run around 60mph. If you want fast, this boat can do it.

I have never heard anything but good about Capt Eddie, I just haven't ever had the need to use someone other than Capt Josh. If I ever do need to book with someone else due to booking issues, I would sure look to Capt Eddie.

I could not agree more....josh works his tail off to put you on fish. I'm ready for another trip Paul.

Ryan, I'm getting ready to book a few trips for October and November. Are there any particular dates you need?

So October's the month huh? Thanks for the info fellas. You think they still have slots for October or all booked up? How many miles do y'all usually run out of Venice for tuna?

Not far... You fish behind shrimp boats mostly in October

Probably 20~25 miles out max.

Awesome. Its short notice so it'll probably have to be just a day trip this time but I Def wanna do an overnighter next year.

As I understand it the only time to do an overnighter is during the summer just an fyi.... I didn't see that part of your first post

Oh really? I had no idea. Well so much the better, it'll be cheaper.

x2

Unless you just want to stay up all night... there's no need for an overnighter except during the summer.

U will be amazed when you see the volume of fish following those shrimp boats. It's crazy.

Ask Kenner18. We caught AJ and a 143# YT that he hooked.
