Remington 700 30-06...scope?

1 Attachment(s)
Trading my dad my 7mag for a practically new 30-06 he just picked up. Has leupold mounts, but no optics.

From yalls experience, what are the best options up to $400. Anything to absolutely stay away from? Tia..

the best Nikon $400 can buy

Get you a 3x9x50 Redfield....they are made by luepold now cost 200 bucks. I replaced a pos Simmons with one on my .270 browning. Awesome scope for the money. Nikon pro staff is nice too but I find the Redfield lets more light in under low light conditions.

Burris 4x12x50 with a spotting scope under 400.00 at Natchez Shooting Supplies

I've always been a leupold fan. I have the vari xIII and it's bright at last light. When it's to dark to see with the named eye you can look through the scope and see another 10 minutes.

Lots of good scopes for that money, leupold, nikon, redfield, and take a look at vortex. All great glass. I have two nikons and can't say anything bad about them. Nikon monarch with BDC reticle is straight up awesome. I killed a coyote at 210 yards with a .50 cal muzzleloader using the monarch with BDC.

$400 budget you can get some quality glass outta the nikon. The real question is why a 30-06?!?!?!? Keep that 7mag

nimbus73 09-11-2012 01:52 PM

Check out a Sightron Big Sky II. I put a Leuopld VX3 2.5x10x50 with illuminated reticle on my 270, but I put a Sightron BSII on my 243. Love them both, but the Sightron 3x9x42 was $379 at SWFA.com. Caught it on sale.

Also heard good things about Vortex scopes, but at the time I bought, they were still emerging onto the scene.

by the way, just looked up the sightron on swfa and the 3x9x42 is $400.95 plus a $75 mail in rebate.

The 30-06 is in much better shape and I can afford more ammo. 7mag is 40+ a box for core lokt and 30-06 is 20. In todays age I'd rather have more ammo.

Nikon is your best bang for your buck in that price range.

If you are willing to spend another $100 look at Zeiss' Conquest line. I have a 4-12x50 on my 300wsm and love it. Paid $500 for it.

Vortex optics are also good choices. High quality and affordable.

I bought a Nikon Pro Staff 2 years ago. I looked at the Monarch and a leupold [I was looking across the store, not outdoors] and could not see any difference so I saved a few $$$ getting the Pro Staff. I got it from Amazon.com. because they had the best price I could find on the net.
