Can someone explain this

'All commercial and recreational fishing is prohibited within these waters except for recreational and charter boat angling'

I can't fish there but I can 'angle' there?

All Catch and Release.

See the article in La. Sportsman on page 14. What a coincidence!

You just can't keep shrimp, crabs, or oysters is what it sounds like

I emailed Ashley Wethey about it. Here is her reply.

Mark,

Yes, recreational angling (fishing with a hook and line) is the only permitted activity in the closure area with the exception of the special bait dealer permit mentioned in the release. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,
Ashley

Subject: outdoor wire closure article

Hi Ashley

This article is a little confusing, http://www.theoutdoorwire.com/story/...009pvjuf21n8fh

“All commercial and recreational fishing is prohibited within these waters except for recreational and charter boat angling. The harvest of live bait by wholesale/retail seafood dealers who hold a special bait dealers permit and who harvest live bait for sale to recreational fishermen exclusively is also permitted.”

It looks like you can still fish with rod and reel from a boat. Is that correct?

Thanks

The oil matts are extensive and go alot further inland than Elmer's Island & Fourchon Beaches but these are areas the public visits which is why they closed these sections down and left open the even more extensive oiling further north for about 8 miles. DHH needs to shut this entire area down and the LDWF needs to immediately institute some protective creel limits for the areas outside of this impacted area to help rebuild our fishing stocks otherwise we are going to end up like the 1970's striper fishery on the Atlantic coast--barren.

TarponTom where is the oiling located 8 miles north of Elmers island? I haven't heard about it.

TarponTom 09-05-2012 04:44 PM

Its in the marsh grass around Bay Tambour & Fisherman's Bay areas which is north of EI.

Thanks for the info

Sc member BIOID has published TONS of findings of oil contaminated fish in grand isle waters . I'll get him to post in here

Wide Open 09-05-2012 10:38 PM

We located a lot of oil in upper barataria in the last couple of days. Many of it is were some of the worst and hardest hit areas were during the spill. It amazes me that some were convinced it all disappeared! Lm F ao!
I will say this the clean up efforts in the areas I worked , were very productive, but it was just too much for man to gather all alone! What I found very mysterious though was that oil that I had located on 4:00 one evening would totaly disappear by 7:00 the next morning!
I dunno!
