On the opening day of Shrimp season last month, I went to Grand Bayou and the gate was open like the phone recording said.......
But.......there was board laying across the opening blocking the opening. Water was going into the marsh so I did not want to get too close to check it closer. This was a little before daylight.
I waited around to see if another boat would come. I left a little while later.
That afternoon I called the office and talked to the guy incharge. He said the marsh was open to the public and did not know why the board was there. We speculated that maybe someone put it there to keep other boats [me] out so they would be the only one back there.
He told me "if the gate is open....it is ok to go in the Marsh". The "CLOSED" sigh is up on top of the weir and I think the wind could blow the sign so that it says "CLOSED".
