Changed my water pump !!!

I changed the water pump impeller and the gaskets on my 1999 Suzuki 25 3 cyl today ALL by myself. Looked at a You tube video demo and it looked simple enough. It took me about 30 minutes. The trickiest part was getting the gear shifter cable screwed back on.

I am very proud of myself and saved a few dollars!:)

Yeah, getting the linkage reconnected can be a beyatch! But the actual pump replacement is a breeze.

Good deal..... Always good when you can save a few coins.

Did you start up the engine and try shifting gears? It is easy to be a little "off" netural when reconnecting the linkage. You don't want to gears to "grind" when shifting.

Maybe you should first just try turning the prop by hand and have someone shift gears to get a feel to see if the gears engage correctly.

I learned this the hard way the first time I changed a water pump impeller. I did not pay attention to where the linkage connected when I took it apart and I had to make several adjustment to get it shifting correctly.

did not know this. I did crank it and if I recall it may have made a slight "kling" when I put it in gear. will have to double check this afternoon before heading to Toledo. THANKS for the heads up.

ran the boat this weekend at Toledo and low and behold no grinding when I put it in gear, both F and R. I guess I did it right!!!

I just changed the impeller and gaskets on my Yamaha 90 and unfortunately my linkage will not let me go from forward to neutral but reverse to neutral works. Any advice? I took it apart and moved the splines about five or six times and still couldnt get it to sync up.

Did you try cranking (Turning over....not starting) the engine or turning the flywheel by hand. This should change the position of the gears and allow you to "shift" gears.

Don't run the engine until you think that the shift rod is in the correct position. If it is out of position....you could "grind" the gears and cause damage.
