Definitely not oil, I've always called that stuff coffee grounds. Nothing to worry about

dmtfish 09-15-2012 04:52 PM

Definitely not oil, i have never examined it closely but always assumed it was silt carried over from the atchafalaya or decaying vegetation. I was there most of the week and the water looks good in the bay.

I have called it coffee grounds also. It shows up in a lot of the bay along the shore when the wind has been blowing into the shore line.

It look more like decayed vegetation.
