Ford may be on to something here

fishinpox 10-04-2009 05:09 PM

yak'em-n-stack'em 10-04-2009 05:18 PM

when chevy makes one it would be amazing

use a german company though

flounder_smacker 10-04-2009 05:20 PM

gm is supposed to be also coming out with a diesel for the quarter tons.

LaAngler 10-04-2009 05:22 PM

one thing is for sure i would NOT buy the first year model that this is offered, wait a few years until they dial it in

Deadly D 10-04-2009 05:25 PM

Just cant see that being cost efficent. The cost of diesel now and just wait winter isnt here yet.

YOU told me you secretly loved davids king rancher.....:*****:

who cares about cost efficient when it's already a 330 hp 450 lbs of torque stock engine, reprogram that beast and you got a 13 second half ton pickup at basically bone stock cost.

I wouldn't count on any inovation from Government Motors for a while. A 1/2 ton disel from ford doesn't suprise me a bit. Just another reason why they are not on the welfare rolls like GM & Chrysler.

Now before anyone goes to screaming let me say that own 2 Dodges and 1 Chevy and the fuel economy sucks in each one. my 3/4ton GM gets 12mpg 1/2ton Dodge 15mpg and wifes Durango 18mpg. I drive a Ford Expidition for work and with 150k on the clock it gets better than 20mpg.

You can bet my next one will be a ford.Maybe even a diesel?.SK

flounder_smacker 10-04-2009 05:50 PM

yeah i would def wait a year before buying. the diesel in the quarter ton should have been done a long time ago. ive always wanted a diesel for all the crap i pull around but never really liked the big body hd's.

GM and Ford have both been talking about doing this for several years now. I believe that these trucks would have already been out had oil makers been able to stabilize diesel prices earlier.

I'm out on any first year production. I worked as a service advisor for a Chevy dealer the first year the Duramax came out...It was nothing nice!:shaking:

There has been rumor that Toyota will be making a half ton diesel in the coming years as well. If they do, American manufacturers are really gonna be in a bind!

Deadly D 10-04-2009 06:13 PM

Overseas has had small diesel trucks since way back and they hold up to good for here in the US. Nobody can make any money they wouldnt break

duckman444 10-04-2009 06:36 PM

ford baby ford if its gonna be a diesel. wait hold up before you bash i admit the newer ford diesels suck, but i drive a powerstroke 7.3 and if you know anything about diesels you should know that the 7.3 is the baddest diesel of them all!!!!!!!!!!

and the old cummings ,to much polution stuff on the new ones.

duckman444 10-04-2009 06:49 PM

i like the new cummin's over the new ford. but i can't put the 5.9 over the 7.3! the powerstrokes come out on top. i was told that the only reason they quit making the 7.3 powerstroke was because after sinking millions in to it they could not get the motor to meet the new EPA standards so they had no choice but to discontinue. that sucks because they have been hit or miss since then. i would like to have a new f250 with a new cummins diesel in it if i had to get a new truck.

I had the duramax in a 3/4 and had a chip and exhaust sytem on it. Wasnt a bad set up but I got a new camper and the truck wasnt quite enough to handle the weight.Bought the dodge 1 ton and changed the exhaust and had to sign a wavier for it saying I was using it for off road racing. I am getting 21 mpg now compared to 15.3 before I changed it. Dont need no chip on this one

duckman444 10-04-2009 07:00 PM

heck no they would never make it that easy for you. that is just one of my sick fantasies.
