Ok Gear Heads!
I am shopping a new truck as we speak w/ our local dealer and need to know - Do I go w/ 3.55 or 3.73 gear on rear end? I have read 100 articles on internet and now they have me thouroughly confused!!!!!
It will be the Ford EB in 4x4 crew. Thanks for the explanation!! |
If you plan on pulling some weight, take for instance a good size travel trailer or gooseneck trailer and tractor, go with the 3.73. If it's mainly just lighter loads and highway, go with the "highway" gear ratio.

If you tow a heavy boat or camper regularly 3.73... If you don't tow a lot then 3.55 for fuel economy
|
I tow almost every weekend, but 95% of the time it is small 15' single axle ATV trailer, and my boat which is less than 6K fully loaded. A few times a year I have to pull a 20' tandem w/ tractor/implements.

3.55 will get it done with no problem

I agree on the highway gears. I haven't noticed enough of a difference in the 1/2 ton trucks with the different rear ends. If a person is wanting a truck to pull they usually always go with 3/4 ton and up.
You won't have any problems pulling what you described. |
Thanks fellas! Appreciate it!!!
As they say, if it doesn't pull drag, go bang, or have boobs - then it is out of my comfort zone! |
