Trailer hub seals
 

Who has the best selection of boat trailer hub parts in Lake Chuck ???

My replacement seal from a leading auto parts house is way too big, no luck matching the numbers on the one I removed from the hub...

Oh, and its the weekend !!! Go figure :rolleyes:...

Try Clarks Spring in Sulphur. He works most weekends and has anything you need.

X2 I was there earlier today to pick up a spare trailer tire. they have a nice selection of trailer accessories and parts. i'd be suprised if they didn't have what ya need.

Yes to Clark's Springs....small town business but a good inventory.

When you don't know the exact size......bring the hub with you so they can measure it to get the correct fit.

To install the seal........I have much better success "Pressing" the seal in using my vice. I have damaged seals trying to line it up and tapping it in. If I remember correctly, a piece of 1.5" dia. PVC pipe fits just right to use it to "tap" the seal in.....but I mess them up too often.

Last time I had trouble findin trailer parts I found them at lake area marine but these cats seem like they no what they talkin about so I would just go wherever is closest

Have any of you had leaf springs go out on you if so what's the sounds. My trailer knocks really bad especially when I take boat off I've never messed with them or had them go bad so I'm just assuming that's it.

I had one break at the boat launch at Nibblet's park. I think the boat was leaning to one side and I could see the broken spring. I had to leave the boat/trailer and come back the next day after getting a new spring from Clark spring in Sulphur.

Crawl under the trailer and take a look. If a spring is broken you should be able to spot the problem fairly easy.

I have sockets and phenolic stock that work well for setting seals... Deadblow mallets and patience are the key...

A little RTV helps "lube" em' up on the way in and keeps them in place once it dries...

At least I'm not missing out on any fishing this morning !

This is gonna be a good day to work on stuff like that if you have a shop for sure....... I am pose to start building forms for my new house Monday so I hope this mess gets done sooner then they show

When you go and find the one you need, buy an extra set and keep at home.
For installing seals, try laying a 2x4 flat against it and tapping with a hammer till it is started straight then knock it in.
At least that is how the wife does it over here. :)

Found bearing "kits" (with seals) at the NAPA on Broad St, and bought the two they had in stock, stopped at UTEC for giggles and they had a box of the seals I needed ...

Everything is back together and ready for action, plus I have enough spare bearings and seals to last a lifetime ...

Had one break last year and the boat tilted to the side that was broken. That and it was very noticeable when going down the road. Sounded like it bottomed out when I hit a slight bump. I guess it was!

If all else fails go to Motion Industries on PPG Drive, you will walk out with a seal.
