Pompano in Big Lake

This one was caught in Big Lake last week. Has anyone ever heard of catching one in Big Lake before?

Kinda hard to tell on this pic because the smaller jacks carry the same characteristics. I've caught one pompano by the green camp north west of the jetties 1999 and jacks I've caught up to Prien Lake when a good south wind and salinity are working together.

All and all nice "bucket" of fish lol. I would take that any day. Good job

Its a Pomp. Look at the tail. Jacks will have a sharper base at the tail and pomps have a smoother one as it transitions to the tail.

But enjoy that pomp! Melt some butter, sprinkle some oregano, mix in some orange rime, a dash of OJ, and spread it onto the pomp filet. Put it on the grill with some wood chips until it starts to flake.

Was in big lake about 10 years ago heading back to Hebert's and came across a school of them (I am not sure what time of year they school but it was a huge school). I accidentally ran the boat right through the school not knowing there was a school there and the water just exploded with what looked like pompano jumping out of the water. It was along the east bank heading back north.

A friend of mine caught one mid lake last week while anchored on a reef.
