Fishing etiquette

Let me start off by saying all situations are different before this causes a rucus.

What is more aggravating then being on a school of fish that you have worked hard for all day to put your people on and it suddenly ends because somone either runs thru them or decides to troll up in the middle of them? NOTHING

Yesterday SaltERedneck and I finally got on that school of fish we had looked for all day in the dreadful wind. We had caught a few fish and a passing boat decided to stop about 100 yards away from us. No big deal, right. We continue to put fish in the boat one after another and before you know it, I can underhand flip my bait into their boat. Worse than that, his trolling motor is on top of where we were casting. Am I wrong to say this is unbelievably rude? We didn’t say anything and he eventually wondered off about 50 yards in disgust has he wasn’t catching a thing. We decided to give the school a break and fish a spot that had no action visible on the surface, but we knew there was fish there. We trolled out a way to be courteous to his space and then started up and ran to our spot. Looking back as we put the trolling motor down, he was riding right behind us the whole time and basically drifted 100 yards behind us starting his motor every so often to get on the same course as ours.

After catching a few flounder and reds, we decided to go hit the trout again. As lady luck would have it, the person cranked up and RACED us back to the hole and was unsuccessful doing so because his motor died. We get back on the fish by the time he makes it back and he motors right on over to us, drops trolling motor and begins to cast in the same 10ft area we are

I understand when fish are schooling and we all try to get a piece of the pie, but when is enough really enough? When do we lose our cool and make a scene to the people that are being straight up rude? I think Lady Lake had our backs by treating them with about 10 fish to our 100 or so. The point to this is to remind everyone the proper way to share a spot and a way to fish a school while being etiquette all at the same time.

Couldn't agree more. I'm afraid I would have went off on him lol.

Lol. Ya we talked about it a few times but the fact they weren't catching fish was satisfaction enough for us. I just hate the feeling of that

I would've told him something. At least asked if he knew he was being a fly at a barbecue. If he didn't realize what he was doin, I would've enlightened him.

Fuze13 10-01-2012 01:50 PM

I think he knew. If we would have stopped catching because of it I would have lost it. That's like peeing with the toilet seat down. Don't make no sense

And i do realize this probably has been talked about on SC a million times LOL.

we were fishing lafitte during the summer and was first to a set of birds. Catching left and right, here comes a boat barrels in directly across for us and then starts chunking baits in our direction. One of the jigheads lands on my boat and almost hits my friend in the head and snags into my other poles. My friend cuts off his bait and throws his line inthe water. He the audacity to yell at us for not releasing his bait.

I usually aim for the one on the trollin motor... He's the one in control of how close they're gettin. One shot across the bow, next one is hittin something.

SaltERedneck 10-01-2012 03:02 PM

lol is all

fishaholic82 10-01-2012 03:03 PM

I usually am able to keep my cool but when in situations like that when I am still catching and the person potlicking me isn't I just rub it in by acting like the guys on the fishing shows by loadly celebrating every fish that comes in the boat and sometimes even counting out load.

Fuze13 10-01-2012 03:28 PM

LOL we did that a few times... i think thats what finally made them come as close as they did - SaltE is bzy today - i think he was more upset than me. Either that or he cant reply due to the content of his response LOL

SaltERedneck 10-01-2012 03:31 PM

too many bleeps... atleast the democrat knew what he was doin and didnt come motoring up.

joeymaloz 10-01-2012 03:48 PM

Ragin_Cajun 10-01-2012 04:01 PM

You guys......you definately dont come from the same school as me.....

The 3 things you need for the potlickers....(i use these i order depending on my disposition and coors light!)

1. Saltine Crackers
2. Bottle Rockets / Roman Candles
3. M-80

I know the feeling BUT you have to tell them, you have to at least let them know what they are doing is not cool. They may not know any better. They problably know better, but sometimes they don't. Told a couple kids last year and they had no clue, I like to think they are going to be more respectful, probably not but maybe

Fuze13 10-01-2012 05:28 PM

Ya they knew. Potlickers 100% lol. I like the bottle rocket idea too. After long thought about this I am making a vow to say something from now on.

Ragin_Cajun 10-01-2012 07:05 PM

On a serious side, you are correct. Last year in Cocodrie, me and the wife and two boys were on some birds. Young boys and wife cathing and i was unhooking and getting a sip of beer when i could.....proud fun moment till some jack leg and his young son came within 20 yards of the boat and never stopped. I was P.O.'ed!!!!!! Needless to say, the fished stopped and we headed off to Last Island.....while in route i swing wide of the sulfer mine and notice plenty of boats. I find the side with the biggest opening and ease up tofish.....Guess who comes blazing up to fish about 30 yards from me!!!!!!!!!!!! YUP Jack leg himself with his son.

I proceed to kick the trolling motor on high to get close enough so he can hear me.....tell him he needs to slow down and be a bit more courteous on the water.....told him he dam near ran over me and now comes rolling up on me......He told me to mind my own business...thats when i had enough! Told him he does it again and i will be his business....besides..."What are you teaching your son?????' I think that got his attention and he then apologized!

They dont teach this in boating courses but they need to!
