Just picked up today I know it's nothin fancy but its what I wanted ready to let it role gotta get some tires though

that right there is one of the toughest ones ever built

no doubt, it's ashame they can't make a 500-600 now days as tough as the old 300s.

Y'all got any recommendations on the tires I should get as far as size, and are the brakes worth fighting with to get them working?

Best bike ever built IMO, no- brakes aren't worth fighting.
It will last forever if you don't Ghetto-ize it with all the tire/snorkel/lift,crap.

I like that, I do need some tires though I bought it to use in the fields where I hunt with McNabb and stock tires just won't cut it

26" vampires

25" on front and 26" tires on the rear. The factory tires were sized like this due to front and rear having slightly different gear ratios. Look into highlifter disc brake conversion kit if you really want brakes, the old drums usually aren't worth repairing.

I wanna put the 27x7.5x14 all the way around like I said must of the mud this bike will see is in a rice field and it seems the skinnys do well finding bottom I'm just worried that they would be to much for the bike

I would go smaller tire and more grip. I got some old school vampires on my 300 and it turns them good but might bog down with anything much bigger. Love mine. Puts engine in a bind hauling 3 people but it is bulletproof.

From what Johnny is saying with the gearing you would need 26" in the front and 27" on the rear. Just a thought but where you hunt will the extra inch find bottom? Really only half an inch rise by going 1" taller on the tire. Of course I'm assuming you'll have some weight if you're using it for hunting. If that's the case it'll definitely be looking for the bottom.

1 inch shock spacer, 27" tires and a gear reduction and your nearly unstoppable with this bike. Axle paddle if you really feel feel like it.
