Lilypads on The Bend

Takin' my father out for his bday on the bend next week early. Gonna spend all day. He's heard of catchin' em on frogs off lily pads and would love to do it...probably we'll launch at Kite's Landing. Anyone know where to find some productive pads on either TX/LA side, don't matter??!!

He's caught a few fish with me on the river, but hardly no numbers. Gonna try to get him on some numbers...largemouth, spots, don't matter..thanks in advance for any advice!

Not too many places with pads around there. I think you will have similar luck if you can find some milfoil or hydrilla that is on top or close to the top of the surface. They have also been catching in alligator grass too. Good Luck

Spots have been plentiful on ridges in 12ft of water with wood cover. Throw a carolina rig speed craw and you will catchem if they are there.

not much lilies on LA side around that area... pirates has been doing good. usually holds some grass. Indian mounds and hausen always a good stop for the grass you need to look for. X2 on what Fuzedinger said. Two weeks ago my buddy smoked em in 2-4ft of water with weightless senkos. of course in grass.

brand new to bass fishin'...this year. But, my year's worth of experience is mainly cal. river. never lookin' for grass...lol

i know i can feel it when i'm in it...and realize its sparse or slick bottom when i'm draggin' worms...but other than that, how do I know where the grass is...or better yet, what kinda grass i'm in.

i was at a place up on the LA side a few months ago...the grass was growin' out from an island like 50 yards before we got to the island, it was prob 4ft beneath water...worked it w/ a spook w/ some spots hittin' it.

So i know where it is, but just cuz a buddy showed me

Most of the lilypads are gonna be on the tx side

Got a report that they are catching on frogs and topwater around the Indian Mounds next to grass

The last 2 weeks we caught all ours in 3-5ft of water on the edge of the hydrilla in the pepper grass. Wacky style. We even pulled an 8.0 pounder out

Lilly pads

There are plenty of Lilly pads near north Toledo bend state park. You can launch at Ethel's near 1215.

Just got a report..... keeper size bass moving into back of creeks already. Chrome one knockers killed them. Better 4lb+ fish caught in 15ft on c-rigs. This is midlake area both sides. Big fish was 7.68 on pumpkin 3/4 oz football jig. They r stroking (method of fishing jigs) and that's how they want it. Google stroking jig technique and try it

Cmon guy's. We all know how much geese like to eat lilly pads.

Sorry for askin a newbie question - but I are one. Lol

When u a talking about locating grass (btw, thanks on all the tips where to go) am I gonna be seein this stuff top water, or is it just common to find it while fishin. I have a super basic depth finder that may or may not divulge this info at an idle.

Thanks again! Gonna hit it Monday and ill post results good or bad. First trip on the bend where I'm responsible for finding the fish lol

jchief 10-20-2012 11:26 AM

I haven't been up to the lake in a couple of months, so not sure if the grass is to the top or not. Watch your depthfinder in 18' and shallower and you will see it growing. It may be hard to distinguish from the bottom sometimes.

Grass = hydrilla and coontail
