Cost to have bearings repacked on trailed
It will probably cost more to have my trailer bearings repacked in Colorado Springs than in LA, but what would you expect to pay locally?
I'd rather not get totally ripped off on this, but would also rather have it done professionally before towing the boat 3000 miles (round trip) for our expected trip over winter break. The boat and trailer are 6 years old and the bearings have never been repacked. Fresh water is more forgiving than salt, but I think it's time. |
I pay 25.00 per axle here in south La.

Always done my own. But I would say in the neighborhood of $30 per side.

That could be a tough one, but you really need to make sure the races are in good shape and the bearings. Lot of that will depend on how many miles are on the trailer since last change.
Additionally I read somewhere that if you pull a boat for several miles and the bearings will heat up, that when dunked in water, will pull water into hub through contraction from rapid cooling. I try to change mine yearly, and have always had issues. Did mine this summer, I pulled the hubs and replaced all brakes, races, bearing and seals will a good marine trailer grease and total cost was about $200. I did wait too long or would have been about $70. |
You can buy new hubs with the bearings in them already packed for $40 per side. I don't bother re packing and checking. Pop the old one off and new one on. Just replace every couple years.

I just replaced 4 hubs/ new bearings/ new breaks... Had a bearing go out on the way home from New Orleans ... Limped back to Baton Rouge ... Destroyed hubs and I'm not sure how the wheel was still attached !! Cost me almost a grand

Quality trailer on pinhook will have everything you need.

It is easy to repack bearings. Prolly a youtube video.
If I were you, I'd get buddy bearings and just squirt some grease w couple times a year. |
