Visiting in-laws in Lafayette for Thanksgiving and was wondering if there is any decent places to wade fish vermilion bay that don't require a boat to access. Other close recommendations welcome.

Theres not too many palces to access wade depths near the point w/o a boat. There may be in another palces around the bay.

Yep try the beach or the fishing pier at the state park.

Thats what I'm thinking, soft bottom = sunk up to your butt in mud.

Yeah I was gonna say, even if you had a boat don't think you can wade the bay. One day In the cove I thought I'd beach my kayak and walk up and down this 100 yard long beach made of black sand. Yeah well the sand was really silt and I jumped out without checking how solid it was with my paddle. Sank down to my waist and took a few minutes to haul my *** back out of it and onto my yak. It was like quicksand. I had to get myself into a prone position to get enough buoyancy to help get on the yak. There was nothing for my feet to push off of. Not fun!

Just be careful if you get on some birds, might get run over or have an anchor impaled in your head! :work:

I hear you on the birds - used to live in Houma and had that problem at last island in an 18ft boat. Would ask if the just wanted to tie up to me.
