Fishing at Sam Houston State Park

Planning a camping trip with some buddies next weekend at Sam Houston State Park. Trying to figure out if fishing is worth it and what type or if I just need to fill up the cooler a little more.

you can catch a lot of things there in the ponds or on the river brim bass cats and crappie are all in that area if you have a boat it will help get away from the area where everyone fishes but if not just get after them

I would be surprised if you caught anything in the ponds. Over fished and way to much grass has killed the fishing in those ponds.

Just bring a few extra cold ones and a catfish rod and rod holder.

Don't expect to hold a fish-fry from gamefish you might catch from the lakes or the long bulkhead in the park along the river. You might just pack 'catfish gear' and fish the river from along the bulkhead.

The ponds have way too much grass and way to shallow. I brought some crickets last year and caught a good mess by the boat ramp. Walked the trail by the boat ramp and picked up a few bass too.
