Just found out that I will be heading to Alaska soon for to work on the Noble Discoverer. I will be in Dutch Harbor so it ought to be interesting to say the least.

Maybe if they would boil them crabs in some Coonass Crab boil, I aint too much on them. Halibut, Elk, Salmon, I can eat my weight in that.

jchief 12-03-2012 04:31 PM

Ah, I want them uncooked so I can cook them.

Had a cousin that used to work up there somewhere and he would send us crab that we cooked. YUM

It will definitely be a cool experience but I'm hoping to come back to the gulf(or at least somewhere that doesn't freeze) soon.

You work for Noble? My dad and my uncles work for them. An my grandpa is retired from them. Good company.

Actually my dad had to go to Dutch Harbor to meet the rig when it got there and train some of the guys that are working on it.

fishaholic82 12-03-2012 07:33 PM

Yeah I work for Noble. I haven't had any problems with them in fact I'm at home getting paid right now cause the last rig I worked on just recently got stacked and I am waiting on my next rig assignment. Is your dad in the training department?

Westwegan 12-03-2012 07:35 PM

Yeah he works in Bayou Black at the shipyard doing the training for new hires.

Check out the strip jernt and repot back to us, they flys'em in from all ovah.

fishaholic82 12-03-2012 10:21 PM

Westwegan- I just went thru there back in april it was kinda cool that they go thru that much for every person they hire. I was lucky to have a good group of guys to spend 2 weeks in a classroom with

Westwegan 12-03-2012 10:28 PM

Yeah they have a good training program. if you run into a Rhine Perrin that is my dad or a Danny (Max) Smith Jr thats my uncle he is rig manager for the Noble Max Smith that is heading to Brazil. My Grandpaw is Max Smith Sr. but he is retired now.

What rigs have you worked on for Noble?

fishaholic82 12-03-2012 11:08 PM

I meet your dad when I was at Bayou Black. So far I have only worked on the Seillean. We recently cold stacked it and I am supposed to be going to the Discoverer.I'd much rather be going to Brazil than Alaska!

southern151 12-03-2012 11:10 PM

Yeah, Brazil would be awesome!!!...if you are single or wishing to be divorced! LOL!

Westwegan 12-03-2012 11:14 PM

Yeah i figured you probably ran into my dad at the yard he is there all the time. Well good luck in Alaska should be pretty interesting.

fishaholic82 12-03-2012 11:17 PM

Im not into that part of Brazil I'm just not a big fan of freazing my a$$ off! But that is a good point a lot of the guys I know that worked in Brazil either divorced or came close to it. Also a few with families in both countries.

southern151 12-03-2012 11:25 PM

Worked and vacationed in S. America. I have to admit, it would be tough to go back and ignore the sights as a married man. Those folks sure can grow some great "crops!" ... And, no, I'm not referring to any s. American plant!

When they come into port all the crabs are steamed. I don't think even the crew man are allowed to take any off the boat, I'm pretty sure I seen that on Deadliest Catch.
