Venice offshore

Had Paul Carlson and his friend Craig from Illinois. They went with Josh yesterday and got blackfin and amberjack. We went out today looking for Yellowfin. We left the dock in the 35 Donzi and headed into threatening skys. The ride out was very uncomfortable with a confused sea. The blackfin were plentifull and by 9:00 we had both fish boxes full.

Each one could only hold 3 blackfin tuna each. We had a large body bag in the back of the boat for the rest of the fish. They did not want any more blackfin because they had no more cooler space after 2 days of catching. After spending most of the morning avoiding blackfin and not finding any yellows we started trolling for wahoo. We found a couple more blackfin but I can honestly say the wahoo have not showed up for the winter yet.

After having lunch while I trolled towards a group of rigs we decided to go down for amberjack. That option payed off as Craig landed this nice 42 pound reef donkey. It almost got the best of him but he did not give up the rod.

We picked up an almaco jack and got a scamp grouper eaten by a baracuda. We hook up to another amberjack and it is Paul's turn. He lucked out bacause the boat had to work to pull the fish out of the rig there by taking the fight out the smaller of the Aj's.

We decided to head in and clean some fish. They are planning to fish tomorrow with me but after cleaning what we had and what they got yesterday They will be buying some more coolers in the morning. We may go out for trout when they get back and they will be going offshore again Saturday. We will be going in a completely different direction so they can learn more about this area.

I have been showing them this area and setting up thier waypoints. They do not know how long they will fish here. They have to be back in Ill. Wednesday.

Life is Good!
Fishing is not a matter of life or death. It's more important than that.

capt hoop 12-10-2012 07:35 PM

Blackfin were right under the boat. We watched most of them take the baited hook.
