Got a Boat Last Week! Now What?
My grandfather gave me his boat last week as he's too old to go fishing the bayous by himself. 15 ft. with 25 HP, a boat I used to fish in alot back in the day around the Grand Isle area.
Lately, I've been exploring spots accessible by foot in the Calcasieu/Cameron area, but now want to give it a try with my new (20is yrs old) toy. Thinking of trying Turner's Friday morning, as I've had luck there in previous years during the winter, but have since learned that specks and reds move even further North than that. Before last winter, I would have thought one was full of **** had they told me you can catch specks in Calcasieu River North of I-10. With the recent rain and front, what might be my best bets? Turner's? LNG? Prien? I've fished at the Prien Park with some success of flounders in the past few months, and from what people have told me, 210 bridge is supposed to be good during cold months. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. |
I fish around Houma so I'm no help to you spots on over there.
But I can tell you over here we are catching specks and smaller reds in the Ship Channel which is typically fresh. A buddy of mine who has a house on the intracoastal not far from TGMC which is in the middle of Houma and typically fresh has been catching Redfish and Specs off of his dock. In one night he caught gaspergou, channel cats, bass, redfish and speckled trout . So Yes Saltwater fish will travel into fresh water. |
