Oil injection opinions

Just bought an 05 mercury 40 with oil injection. I hear some people say they disable it and mix just to be safe. Others say these systems are very reliable now days. Just wondering what everyone thinks about this.

I would disable it. I had an 01 125 merc and it was running fine then all of a sudden just stopped. Oil pump went out and burnt up the motor and of course it was 9 pm couple miles south of 210. I was lucky somebody passed me on the way to the casino with his wife and gave me a tow back to the launch

My motor has been burnt up. Remove it.

Your new rig?

I had a 200 Merc oil inj. system go out on me 34 miles offshore.
Had to get towed in.
It has a plastic gear off the crank shaft that went out.
Why the F would anyone put plastic inside an engine?
The guy who took it all out for me wanted the pump/shaft/tank... ect. in exchange for removing it.

marshrunner757 02-15-2013 11:19 AM

Well, sounds pretty unanimous. I will be deleting it.

The convenience of oil injection is nice, but all it takes is a gear to mess up or a line to get a hole in it and your motor is gone. Pre-mixing is too easy on a small motor, so I don't chance using oil injection.

It is genes sorry. And if there shut down its recently. I deleted mine 2 weeks ago.

marshrunner757 02-15-2013 01:51 PM

I'd be willing to bet Jerry's would have it also.
