False River Reports?

What's up fellas? I'm looking to make a trip to False River within the next couple of weeks. I've only been there to drink beer and ski so I have no idea what the fishing is like. I know they have to have some good spots that hold some nice bass. Does anyone have any info that might help? Spots? Bait at this time of year? Anything would help. Thanks in advance.

Haha. I'm guessing False River is only good for drinking beer and riding the jet ski?! Well we're gonna give it a shot and I'll let you know what happens.

Yes there is fish there, but that is all I know. I know people that catch stripers and sacs but dont really know where

Try the piers on the New Roads side toward the Middle to North end of the lake. Use white/chartreuse spinner bait early and switch to brushhawg, craw worm, or jig along the piers later in the day. Grew up fishing there and fished there a lot when I lived in Baton Rouge with much success. My brother caught a 10+ pounder at this time of year there on a lizard a few years back.

The light house canal near the condos used to be good. Haven't fished it in years though.

Went tonight and walked the piers at the public landing for a couple hours. 7 bass (4 keepers) on plum trick worm small EWG hook and 1/16 oz bullet weight. SLOW dragin was the ticket.

Yeah man!
That's how lil bro Goathead caught his 10+ fishing on Deaton's old pier. Knowing we all caught plenty of em in that area.

Before you get visions of BIG bass . Goathead and i and about 8 other folks i know caught BIG bass ( 10 lb +) from the piers .BUT! it was in the early 90's before the LBV killed a lot of the BIG fish. Now a BIG FISH IS 6 -7 LBS. But there's still a lot of fish to be caught.

jlsch1 03-27-2013 06:57 PM

I agree. I know a few weeks back they were sitting dead on the bulk heads.
If you threw a jig and it didn't hit the bulk head you would not catch the bass.

I like to hit the brush piles away from the piers due to I am a hardcore crankbait guy.

I agree about the size of the bass they got some big boys, but not like the 80's and 90's.
Caught two over 10lbs one in 1992 near light house and one in 1994 off island side after that the largest I caught was 7lbs.

That's about the last time I really fished there. Had a little 14 ft boat witha 2.2 Nissan motor. All I needed then !
