Lake Verret

Anybody fish it here?

Hydro 03-24-2013 05:58 PM

I grew up fishing Lake Verret, Grassy Lake and Lake Palourde as well as the spillway side and marsh south of MCY... Lots of water on that end of the state :smokin:...

The Crackerhead off Verret was one of my favorite haunts, but there have been several tropical systems and a couple of floods pass thru there since I have been in it... Lake Fork creature baits used to be the ticket.

Decent stringers came out of bayou black today. I'm guessing you have a tourney? Is it out of Doirion's?

LPfishnTIM 03-24-2013 08:17 PM

I fish it, I usually launch out of Diorons, and I usually end up in the canals by grassy lake, crackerhead usually is a good area to fish this time of the year too.

What did the water look like? Any hazards running the lake?

Lake is clean as is most of the main canals

southern151 03-25-2013 01:00 PM

Water was a little muddy but, as far as hazards, it was clear of them. Just a few lillies floating around that we discovered. We didn't run way out into the lake but, mainly in the bay.

gonzalesdave 03-25-2013 03:23 PM

I'd scout the Cheramie are for sure

Yes, I think we were probably a week or two before the catfish really turn on, but my son was very pleased with 8-10 catfish and a couple of gaspergou.

I think the lake is probably a great place to bring kids fishing, because I would bet that it would probably be easy to find enough catfish, bream, or gaspergou to keep children interested. I bet the bass are finicky and require the right place, right time, right lure, etc.

Be careful if it is windy that lake gets rough in a hurry

Yeah, I found a news story about a couple getting their boat swamped and climbing trees to escape from the gators.

If it is a nice sunny day........

Be very careful going close to any trees. The snakes love to sun on the branches. In April and May, snakes are everywhere around Lake Verret.

huntin fool 03-26-2013 01:28 PM

Several areas keep popping up, just not sure how well they will hold come mid April

huntin fool 03-29-2013 01:07 PM

It appears bass fishing is like the red headed step child over there... All that keeps getting brought up is catfishing and bream..
