Tablets

Considering a tablet for business use. I need to run Office, Quicken, web page programs, Adobe and possibly Photoshop.

Suggestions???

I don't know of any tablet that will run Photoshop.

Not sure what mine runs - but they issued me a Samsung tablet via AT&T from work and at first, I was like "really, as if you guys don't have enough communications with me", but now I am like "don't mess with my tablet"!! LOL!

That was until it took a bath with me the other night - literally!

Any luck Paul???

I switched from Ipad to iPad mini and like it a lot better for field use and overall handling.

Not sure on photoshop, but they have an Office app for 20 bucks that allows pretty good use of all the office programs. My uncle and their sales and engineering teams use an app called Jump that allows then to access their PC fully from the iPad, just have to have the PC connected to the net, not sure if it is accessible offline. It's pretty awesome, he travels the world and leaves his PC behind now with no issues, you basically see the PC's home screen and navigate just like you would if you were on it except your finger is the mouse - I will be adding it soon. I'm sure you could photoshop through this if it is on your PC?

Adobe released photoshop touch for the iPad late last year, this may do what you need.

None yet but I haven't given up yet.

If you are willing to spend the money get a surface pro or an equivalent windows 8 tablet. They will do everything a PC will do in a tablet form factor.

I'm pretty sure you can't hook a flash drive to an iPad. No Microsoft office either, but I think apple has something somewhat similar.

PaulMyers 03-26-2013 02:15 PM

Open Office or some such thing.

They make an adaptor for memory card/flash.

I print from my ipad wirelessly, and from my iPhone. Wifi printer hooked to the same wifi as the phone or ipad and its a breeS. The printer has an email address too, so I can email to it and whatever I send it automatically prints.

You can pretty much use and edit any office files with the office suite app.

You'd be surprised at the capabilities once you start digging.

I also hook up to projectors and give PPT with the iPad.

3 Attachment(s)
Attachment 48078
Attachment 48079

This is a contained unit, a cheaper one. You can plug into the ipad and save to it or vice versa, or use it a standard thumb drive
Attachment 48080

No doubt the iPad is an amazing device with lots of capabilities, but I feel there are many things Windows RT and Windows 8 tablets can do that the iPad can't. Of course the Surface Pro and equivalents are more expensive and the RT tablets don't have near the app selection as the iPad, so researching exactly how you want to use your tablet before buying is very important. Also the latest android tablets are pretty nice, so don't rule them out.

My wife has the dell laptop that flips the screen and turns into a tablet. It may be a little thicker but it's a computer when you really need one. Photoshop would probably run but it doesn't have the biggest baddest processor in it.

I have an ipad which i use to web browse when I am at home. Bought it for my daughter but she doesnt use it so its mine. But for any other purpose, I still want my windows laptop.

Bumping this because my wife needs one for work and I have NO clue what to get for her. She is in education and would need software such as MS Office, Excel and Power Point. She has a laptop but apparently that is not a cool thing to use nowadays

Jlincecum got one of the surfaces, don't remember which one. I played with it and it worked well.
