Question about hunt prices
 
I have access to hunt family land in Gueydan and Welsh. I have a few blinds that I hunt already in place. Have all the decoys and pumps to flood ponds. Just wondering what all would be involved in doing pay per hunt trips with and without a guide. We have a 3 bedroom house with dog kennel and a 1 room building that sleeps 2 with a small kitchen and bath. Not wanting to turn hunting season into a headache but maybe make enough money to pay for expenses plus a little extra beer money. Do most people that do this have to carry insurance? Just thinking out loud here, hoping to get a few opinions. I am no guide that's for sure but have a friend who is that works the same shift as me offshore and is interested in doing some hunts.

I don't know much about this but I wouldn't dream of doing it without insurance. Also I would be more inclined to lease the blinds instead of running a guide service out of em. An outfitter has to cater to sports, then hope they kill, their entire business is based on a good rep, all while feeling generally unappreciated. One bad report can ruin your business.

If you lease blinds, it's all up to them. They do all their own work, kill their own birds, grass their own blinds, and if they don't kill then the monkey is on their back. A bad report doesn't really matter because if one group decides not to renew their lease, there will always be another group of suckers the next season.

At $200/gun, group of 3, booked for 10 hunts = $6,000
A mediocre blind leased for one season nowadays is going for $4-6k.

Just my opinion.

Look into getting a blanket policy . may work out cheaper?

The property is being farmed and I know there is insurance on property, I just don't know the details. Just kinda curious to see if it would be worth it before I approach my in laws about it.

The idea of renting a blind by the day or weekend, without a guide may be a good idea. If reasonably priced it could appeal to guys not having a lease or tired of fighting WMA crowds..

That is why I considered it. The last few discussions people were talking about their leases getting way overpriced.

Farm liability will not cover anything other than farming operation. Farm Bureau had/has a recreation endorsement that will cover hunting for very little money. 1 mill GL and possibly another 1 mill on an umbrella would be the min i suggest since its undivided family property. Figure a couple thousand for insurance and i can walk you through that part pretty quick. Personally, I would day lease blinds with everything in place for drive ups; good clean blinds, decoys. I also wouldn't over hunt it in order to cultivate repeat customers with bookings every year.

Lease
 
Running daily hunts will make you want to pull you hair out. If you know people that will lease per blind that you can trust-----definite plus. The other post sum things up.

an if you lease by the blind per season. they have to pay the insurance.
