Pond 4-21-13

Fished my buddy's salt water pond again with the wife and daughter. The highlight of the afternoon was my daughter catching her first fish ever! (She is almost 4 in a couple months) Unfortunately the wife has still proven to not have the patience for fishing, but a little more work and she should come around lol. We ended up with a nice mess of flounder, most of which were caught a poles length off the bank not even casting. I was just dipping the gulp shrimp in the water right there and they would hammer it! Nice mess for a couple hours of fishing.

Awesome bro. I know your a very proud dad. This is the first weekend Ethan asked to go fishing with me. He even put the first fish in the boat. Now he keeps asking when we are going again. Lol. Nice job bro.

so is this a landlocked saltwater pond that gets flooded by seawater frequently? or have the flounder acclimated to the freshwater?

If you will notice in the background of the pics, you can see a single covert pipe. This is the only entrtance and exit to the pond and water flows in and out of it based on tides. I have found that fish get in it and never leave. But everytime a hurricane comes it starts all over. When it got good again after Rita and right before Ike I was catching solid trout, 3-4 lbers. After ike didnt catch much but now it is good with the flounder. You could see the flounder all over hittin the top.

By the way, my little girl is definately a fisherman. She was getting mad that I was catching all the fish and blamed her rod as the reason she wasnt catching. Then she demanded that I give her my fishing pole to fish with. I was thinking thats about right! lol

Now you know she caught all them flatties!

10% of the fishermen catch 90% of the fish

It is a 24 acre pond that flows thru a 36" culvert into the intracoastal a half mile south of calcasieu point it is completely tidal.
