See a lot of post stating the sparkle beetle is a must to have in your box.I have not had much, if any luck with them.Use them how,when,and what color? Thanks for any help ( DON'T MAKE FUN,I'M TRYING TO LEARN )

I always wondered the same thing. I keep some in my box because W says to ;), and they're cheap. But I've never caught anything on them. Take thy for what it's worth because its coming from someone who couldn't catch fish at a fish market.

Jig them just like any other bait. I put red dot down. Colors are just like any other plastic to have. Each has their time and place. Can't ever go wrong with a pack of glow.

Good cork bait. Very effective lip-hooked with a kahle hooked "twitch and pause" under the lights for finicky trout.

But the paddle tails are much more effective for the most part.

There's a charter Captain in Cocodrie (Stu Sheer) who fishes exclusively with sparkle beetles.

He uses avacado or motor oil tandem rigged and fishes them year round. Always bringing in limits too.

In my opinion, glow, black with chartreuse tail, and the naurtal shrimp colored one with red flake are all you need.

I've probably caught more specks on that glow H&H sparkle beetle than all other baits combined. Second best bait for me has been the white H&H sparkle beetle, fishing that plain hook, twitching on top the water at night under a light.

The only other artificial bait I've had about as much efficiency with has been the glow Norton Eel, Jr. with the chart tail, fishing it like the glow beetle, either tight line on jig heads, working mid-way in water depth or bouncing off bottom, during daytime or plain hook under a light at night.

The clear sparkle beetle has produced some success with nighttime fishing, but haven't really used it much during daytime.

I remember two summers back-to-back in Grand Isle, at a very productive fishing hole my dad and I frequented, bull reds were mixed in with the specks, and several times those things would grab the beetle and a good 10 minute fight on 10 or 12lb test line would take place. That was fun.

Caught a limit last week all on clear sparkle beetle in BL.

Well there you go. Guess I need to stop limiting that color to night fishing. :headknocker:

i have fished them a long time caught lots of fish on them. glow, chartruse, and smoke.

Grand Isle special!!! Any color combo w/ chartreuse or the glow. They work in the surf here in Texas as well ;)

Swamp, fished with Capt Stu yesterday. We used avocado cocohoes not sparkle beetles. Had a great day on trout and reds. He is the real deal if you want a guide. He is also a great guy.

I have caught many trout on sparkle beetles. Glow, glow with red tail, clear with red tail, clear with chart tail, natural shrimp, chartreuse and purple/chart. They hold up pretty well also. Great for under the lights too. They cast great also

Solid baits that catch!

I use the sparkle beetles under a cork mostly....I prefer salty grubs tightline they have more twitching action. Can't go wrong with chartruse or glow.

Throw on a 1/4 oz jig head summer and 1/8 oz winter

Bingo........I was reading all the post, and wondering if anyone talked about the weight of the jig head. I mostly use a 1/8 oz, but put on a 1/4 oz when I need/want to make longer cast. How you work the bait is usually more important than what color you use.

IMO.....the lighter the better. If you are using a 3/8 oz, you are probably not catching as many fish as you would using a lighter jig head.

That all depends...lighter is not always better and right now i will catch 7 -1 vs anyone in my boat throwing a 1/8oz...trout want the bait fast and action and the 1/4 oz allows it to sink faster and dart harder

And in other situations a 3/8oz will catch more due to coming off the bottom

Last two days all my fish were caught in 7ft of water on the bottom and today i was throwing a 1/4oz and not catching near as fast as yesterday..put on 3/8 just to see and caught the rest of my trout on 3/8..
