Best/Quickest Place For Motor Repair?

Looking to get an ongoing issue with my 25 hp Yamaha fixed. Without saying any names, I've brought it to one place in Carlyss that couldn't fix it, and the other in Sulphur has a 2 week waiting line, and hasn't returned my calls. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My neighbot brought his boat in last Monday to get looked at, They told him it would be July 1st or 2nd before they could get it back to him.

I know it's probably not what you want to hear, but best and quick rarely go together.

describe the symptoms your having with the motor, there may well be someone on here that can offer you some help.

yeah in my experience if a shop doesnt have a waiting list at this time of year, you dont want them working on your boat

Try calling Harold Dyke in south LC. Tell him your problem and maybe he can give you a lead time. He is the best so he stays busy, but he has gotten me in and out in the same day before.

(337) 477-3406 is his number according to the internet.

Jason Guidry in Rayne, hands down. He treats your boat like it's his own, or better. Honest, dependable, and an all round good guy. He was at Gulf Coast Boats but now working out of his house. If you want his number message me.

Alan Matthieu (337-781-3411). Montauk's Dad. Specializes in Yamahas. He will go to your house and work on your boat and usually gets to me a week or so after I call him. Not the cheapest but you know the saying...

We offer cheap, timely, and quality labor. You can have two out of the three!

Alan offers the last two.

I've posted on here with the issues before. Basically, engine was starting up on the water, running fine for 5-10 min, then would sound like it's running out of gas. I would would start it up again, only for it to sound like it was reving up so high, it was about to blow up. I did a carb kit on it, and it ran great on the ears in the yard, but when brought to launch, it would start up, but as soon as i put it in gear, the motor would die out. Repeated this 6-7 times, then loaded it up and brought back to house and hooked up ears, and it ran great. I put it in forward and reverse and it ran perfect. I haven't checked the checked the compression, but plan on doing so soon. I appreciate all the feed back you guys have given.

Did you look in the water/fuel seperator? No water?

duckbuckhunter36 06-26-2013 01:22 PM

I sure have, haven't seen any in the seperator.

I doubt he would want to pay for him to drive to sulphur to work on it. :D

Look for info on the fuel pump on that motor. The engine sounds like it is running lean if it runs very fast at idle after it kills on you. It might be in the carb but it probably is on the motor. Ethanol fuel will break it down. Running on the earmuffs won't really stress the motor enough to tell. They are usually easy and cheap to fix

CajunChristian 06-27-2013 01:20 PM

Either the transition holes are gunked up or the fuel pump is failing. Nothing a good PROPER carb cleaning couldn't fix. If it runs well for a few minutes then slows down, fuel pump or fault in the fuel system from the tank to the motor.

Well, I figured I would post a follow up, after bring motor to Harold Dyke in LC. He pulled the plugs and checked compression, bottom cylinder is shot. Said there was metal shavings. Looks like I'll be looking for a new motor in the very near future.

sorry to hear that, good luck in your search/repower
