Trying to fix trolling motor, need help/advice
The trolling motor on my boat has the two wires coming out of it as most do. The plug that's on it has three wires, red/black and yellow, but the yellow is not connected to any of the two trolling motor wires. The three prong socket on the boat that it plugs into has the same three wires. I want to do away with the plug and socket and straight wire it from trolling motor two wires to the three wires coming from the socket. Do I need to even have the yellow wire connected to anything since the trolling motor only has a red and black? Any tips and/or help appreciated.

You only need to connect one hot wire and a ground

But if its 24 volt trolling motor. The batteries need to be wired for 24 volt.

I did away with mine a good while back. I used some battery terminal crimp splices on each of the wires, then ran a lil bolt through them to fasten them together, greased them up,and heat shrinked the whole thing. Good idea to make sure you have a good inline fuse though with it hard wired.
