Falling out of love with Duramax

After 4 years off really liking these trucks I have grown to hate them. In stuck in warhton tx with it telling me I'm out a def fluid and it is completely full and I'm stuck a 55 mph. Garbage. Not to mention all the times I had to tow it with its stupid " engine power reduced " thing. New diesels are complete trash.

Dude we were having this exact covi over dinner tonight... My buddy has a brand new ford with 2900 Miles, already had to put it in a tow truck 4 times. He told the dealership today they can keep it!

Spunt Drag 07-18-2013 10:20 PM

We used to shut down a union paying job for half a day waiting on the new trucks to re-gen. Stopped work dead in its tracks because of these new "green Eco-friendly" diesels.

Clampy 07-18-2013 10:29 PM

They all trash. I know plenty of people with 6.7 fords that love them and have had few issues but we got Chevys and dodge and post 08 they are both trash.i am a ford man and own a Ecoboost which I love but these new diesels can suck it.

if you idle alot or drive slow in plants. the regen is horrible but on the road the dodge diesil was fine as long as you could get the rpms up. I got a 7.3 for my fence company and im dredding when it goes out i don't want to deal with a new one almost enough to go to a gas one ton.

anytime you are rerunning sut back through your engine its not a good thing. you can always delete but when something goes wrong your on your own

It voids warranty but you can take DPF off. Just keep the housing on.

You! SALUTE! Be careful. Sacs await you on the other side. Stay thirsty! For swamp trot

Clampy 07-19-2013 02:59 AM

In Crowley. That's a long 400 miles at 55 mph. Thoughts of sac a lait is what's driving me. Oh yeah any truck I drive never slows down. The re gen never gave me issues. The duramax just goes into limp mode whenever it feels like it. You go from 75 to 0 in about 20 secs. When the light comes on you better get over. I have took it to dealer it would say " engine power reduced " " change fuel filter" Bring to Chevy they clear it and change filter. Get out the parking lot get on hwy and pull right back over. Garbage. Give me that 7.3 any day. Hell give me a 6.0 as long as the injectors head studs/gaskets injector pump and egr are not factory.

i had a 06 Dodge with the 5.9 and loved it till i got ahold of a bad tank of gas which cost $6000 in damages but lucky for me my insurance covered it. I sold my truck since I dont need the diesel and went back to a gasser and now I am looking at the ecoboost... I feel bad for all yall that need the diesel trucks but I cant understand these guys that buy them just to cruise the road.

Clampy 07-19-2013 04:28 AM

I recommend the Eco. I love mine. I heave heard of the 2011 -2012 having a small issue building condensation in inter cooler at low speeds in moist air. Mine acted up one time after driving through about 2' of water for a mile or so. Punched it a few times and it cleared up. It's not great on fuel like ford claims but its still pretty good for a 4 door 4x4 with 3:73. The duramax pre 08 is a Beast Dodge too but after the partial filters they all suck.

Buddy has a '13 he bought with zero miles, he just hit 13,000 miles and has 12 reports on his carfax. On his second motor and has been left numerous times, it was still acting up the other day when I saw him.

Poor guy got the bad apple!

slambin 07-19-2013 05:31 AM

I'm pretty sure that I must have passed you on my way home from luling tonight.

I know your pain on that though. My old 6.7 dodge always decided to regen while i was pulling the horse trailer or a trailer of hay. I sure miss the old 7.3 power strokes or the 5.9 cummins.

specktator 07-19-2013 06:15 AM

Don't worry I have has same problem with my F-250. I have less than 40k miles. Other day a message pops up for me to pull over safely or some crap and it kills in the middle of the driveway of CVS. Had to get my wife to pull me into the parking lot while I held up the entrance to CVS for about 20 minutes. And a tow truck to come get me. Then I'm on my way back from big lake about 3 weeks later and I feel like I'm losing power. Just like you I went 55 mph back to Lafayette. Both issues had to do with DEF sensors and dryers and crap. If the new 2500 Silverados were available right now, I would be in one. But they don't come out until beginning of 2014.

Clampy 07-19-2013 06:20 AM

I wish I could find the guy who thought of that stupid def and slap the crap out of him.

I have an F250 King Ranch and love the truck but needing DEF fluid and having to deal with it is beyond frustrating not to mention the hit you take in fuel mileage. I have around 40K on my truck as well so when it gets another year or two older I might have it taken out and get a chip in it. Not for power more for fuel mileage. I had a 2008 F250 and had the exhaust work and chip installed and it made a huge difference in fuel mileage and power went up significantly. Unfortunately it would shift really hard.
