GI last two weeks

1 Attachment(s)
Spent some time fishing GI the past two weeks. The pass is giving up the bulls with a hookup rate of once every couple of hours, so if you soak enough cracked crab, you should succeed. My boys wanted to push ahead on some scientific work and also see how many different species we could catch, so we managed generational firsts for oyster toadfish, ladyfish, pinfish, mangrove snapper, american eel, and our first shark over 4 feet.

The boys were really pumped about the shark. The shark was on a big live pinfish in the pass just north of the bridge. The water was too rough to enter the Gulf in our boat, but some of the bigger bay boats were going out. Interestingly, the days we chummed we came up empty for shark, but we succeeded by converting an ice chest into a live well and using a bunch of live pinfish, croaker and white trout for bait. These can be caught readily in shallow water (mullet too some days) with size 8 hooks.

We also spent some time talking with other anglers and seeing their catches. Plenty of redfish and speckled trout are being caught all over the place with the standard techniques.

Thanks for the report MG. But those boys were pumped up with the shark!
