Ski Trip
 

Looking to go skiing in February. Anyone have any recomendations of some of the best places to stay.

Only been once, but we went to brenkinridge.

Line up the knee surgery for March.

That's one trip I never wish to make. I know at least 10 people who went skiing and tore something up in their knee. I know one chic who broke her ankle. Have fun and be safe.

Winter Park in Co. is where I used to go. Way back then, they had great slopes and, they were the best priced as well. Keep in mind, it's been a long time since I've been!

I wild like to take my grand kids somewhere. I think they would play in snow more than ski. They will be 6 and 8

Best beginner skiing is at Durango. But if you have people going that are not going to ski Breckinridge is better because it has a town right there on the mountain.

Check out Steamboat Springs CO there is a good mix of runs for different difficulty and the price is pretty decent

^^^This if you are bring kids. They have tones of things to do other than ski.

I've been to Breckenridge 4 times and Park City once. We go as a huge group every couple of years. Going back to Park City the week of Mardi Gras. We have looked into tons of places over the years and personally I think Breckenridge is the best by far.

Both of these are pretty easy to get to. Fly to Denver and then drive 2 hours, mostly on the interstate to get to Breckenridge. Park City you fly into Salt Lake City and drive 40 minutes to get to Park City. For beginers Breckenridge is definetly the way to go. There are plenty of easy slopes for the newbies. They also have a ton of intermediate runs and are opening a new mountain this year. Breckenridge also has more shopping and restaurants than most ski resorts towns.

I don't know if your dates are definetly set or not yet. Whatever you do don't go the week of Presidents Day. Most people from Louisiana are off Mardi Gras week so alot of them go skiing. The other 49 states are off Presidents Day week so it gets waaayyy too packed that week.

Just went to Breck for the first time this year. It sucks. I have been to Keystone 3 times and really liked it better. Slopes are a lot longer. In Breck, as soon as you would start getting going good, you were back at the chair lift and had to wait in line another 30 minutes to get back on. Spent more time in Breck riding chair lifts than skiing. I will never go back there. And Keystone has night skiing. Ended up driving from Breck to Keystone one day while we were there this year. As for night life and shopping, Breck may be a little better. When we go, we get 7-8 people together and rent a house instead of being crammed in a condo. And we always get a pretty sick house. Like 3 stories and tricked out. Ends up costing each person a few hundred bucks each. It is a lot more relaxing and they usually always come with a private hot tub. We just cook every night instead of going out on the town and spending more money. Usually you are so worn out from skiing you don't wanna do jack at night anyway. You may have to drive 2-3 miles to the slopes but its worth it. Look at VRBO.com

It can be dangerous. My bro in law fractured his neck and chipped some teeth this year racing one of my buddies down the mountain and hit a dip. Just gotta be under control. I snowboard which is harder to learn but probably a less chance of tearing something up because you are locked in the board.

Going this year for my friends bachelor party. We are planning to duck/goose a hunt a day or two and snowboard a few days.

Been a few places. I don't go anywhere but Steamboat anymore.

That will probably be next place I try.

I've been to Red River, New Mexico and Squaw Valley (Lake Tahoe), CA. Squaw Valley is cool because that's where the 1960 winter Olympics were held in so there's a museum and a few other fun things like that to do if the weather isn't cooperative. There's also tons of things to do around Lake Tahoe. If you stay at The Village at Squaw Valley, you don't need a car or anything, everything is within walking distance.

Went to Breck for Christmas of 2010 and had a blast. The ladies loved the town and I loved the slopes. The wait wasn't that bad. I'm a little more experienced with snowboarding so I wouldn't ride the green slopes, which is packed with people learning. Once you get to the blue and black slopes it's a lot less people to try and dodge. We stayed in a condo right on the 4 o'clock trail, so we can ride up to our condo and it wasn't a far walk to peak 9.

The two things I didn't like about the town itself was it was hard to find a damn Coors Light at the restaurants and I didn't appreciate being asked if I wanted some "kill" by every bartender in the town. Rasta Pasta had some good food and it was cheap....... I think they made their money selling other things! Other than that it was one of my favorite vacations and a beautiful town. I would go back again, but I'm leary of Colorado's current political atmosphere. Next trip will probably be to Wyoming.

As other posters have recommended, Steamboat is a great place for every level skier from beginner to expert. May I add another area to consider....Snowmass. Huge mountain, great ski school, family oriented. Next door is Aspen and Buttermilk ski area. The town of Aspen gives everyone something to do besides skiing. I ski this area twice to three times a year. I'm an avid skier that has skied most CO and Utah resorts. Still place aspen/Snowmass on the top of my list. More than happy to answer any questions you may have on any CO. mountains.

Steamboat or Keystone. You fly almost right into Steamboat with a short shuttle run to resort.

The nice thing about staying at Keystone or Breck is that you can find the mountain with the best conditions. Close by is a great locals mountain (A_Basin) which I LOVE to ski when conditions aren't great at Keystone or Breck.

My favorite place so far is Buttermilk in Aspen and Whistler, BC, Canada. WinterPark is great if you like long runs.

Skied Breck, Lake Tahoe, Aspen, Vail, Steamboat, Key Stone, Whistler, Swiss Alps. Views & night life in Tahoe r great the lake & CASINOS. Breck more kicked back ski n ski out Beaver Run Resort great they have every thing u need don't have to leave resort. If u want looong runs do Swiss Alps but not for beginners and they don't groom slopes like good ole USA and people R Rude. Breck with kids Tahoe with out. Hope this helps. Good Luck!!

Copper Mountain is a great family resort. Its close to Breck and Keystone so you can get a pass that allows you to ski at all of the resorts. Best prices on houses/condo is in Frisco. It is right on the interstate and 10 miles to breck, 20 to keystone and 10 to copper. Best of all the worlds and a nice town with lots of shops and restaurants.
