Candy mountain?

Planning a trip to candy mountain looking for some pointers on the closest/best place to launch a 30' boat. Will be camped in Hackberry but looking to cut some boat ride time down as much as possible. Also if anyone has been lately a report would be greatly appreciated, or any other places to hit on the way back. Thanks for all the help in advance.

My rig is next to Auger right now and I didn't see any TUNA for 14 days. Not much going on for my whole hitch and saw 3 boats and never saw them catch.

The mountain is always hit or miss. I would run out of freshwater. Better mpg in the truck. 20 miles adds up on a long trip. There are a few other spots around 10-20 miles from there that would make a good plan b. Go get a Hilton map all the numbers are on it. Good luck and please post report.

Freshwater for sure. It's about 82 miles due south of freshwater. I've always loved fishing the mountain. They got a set of rigs about 20 miles south of the mountain we would also hit and do good on ajs and hoos. That area this time of year is always good.

Ok stupid question about freshwater city launch as I have never been there. Where is It exactly like does anyone have an address? Like I said never been there and also does anyone know if the big ferry is back in Cameron so I can get my truck and trailer across? Last time I tried, which was a few years ago, it was a big disappointment.

Yea the big ferry is back , I was wandering about the FWC launch also

Top Dawg 09-02-2013 09:09 PM

Don't have the address of the launch. But it is south of the locks. Down a long gravel road. The road is on the right in the big curve where the highway curves back to the north.

I believe the road is 3147

Just a heads up on anyone planning on using the launch at Fresh Water city, pay attention to the tides. We used to dock my BIL's boat there, and when the tide was out the water level in the cut you dock in and use to get to the channel gets very shallow. We came back in one evening, thee tide was out and had alot of trouble getting the boat on the trailer.

This was a few years back, but unless it has been dredged it has probably only gotten worse.

You can launch at Acadiana Marina for a fee. PM Speckdaddy for more info

If U need a fishing partner to share expenses let me know.. I've launch out of FWC lots of times..

I have lots of equipment (rods and trolling tackle) for big game fishing. I live in Abbeville which U will come into going to FWC if coming from Lafayette.

Thanks

Sorry for the late post been busy. Left out around 6:30am Wednesday and we hit the 60 mile mark around 10. After trying to catch bait with little luck, didn't see any rips so bait was hard for us. Anyway first couple rigs held cobia and lots and lots of the endangered snapper. After a few cobia we ran to deeper water around 80 miles out, around the mountain and we caught some nice aj's and some small gags. The seas were nice all day. Ill post pics later when I get them off the camera.

Only one problem was when we went to the GPS coordinates for the mountain that i got from the hiltons book I couldn't find the top, all I found was flat bottom I checked the numbers several times and I circled it looking but no luck. But we still had a good trip.
